The proven workhorse

Geotab GO9: the standard that earned it

A plug-in device that streams location, trips, driving behavior, and engine health into MyGeotab.

  • Plug-in OBD II install, no wiring or antennas
  • Auto-calibrating accelerometer and gyroscope
  • Keeps the legacy protocols older vehicles speak

What it does

A small computer on the vehicle network

A generic tracker reports position. The GO9 plugs into the diagnostic port and reads the vehicle itself.

Live location and trips

Every vehicle on one map, with trip history you can replay and verify.

Reads the vehicle, not just GPS

VIN, odometer, engine faults, and seat belt status come straight off the engine network.

Scores the driving

Speeding, harsh braking, hard acceleration, and cornering, measured from the moment it is plugged in.

Flags the exceptions

Zone entry and exit, speeding, and after-hours movement raise a rule-based alert in MyGeotab, so you act on the exception instead of watching the map.

Stays current on its own

Over-the-air provisioning and firmware updates for the device, GPS, and select LTE modems.

Built To Disappear

Plug in, then forget it is there

Sealed electronics on the OBD-II port, installed in minutes and auto-calibrated to the vehicle.

A closer look

Everything the vehicle knows, in one device

A plug-in that reads the vehicle itself, not just its position.

No antennas, no splicing

GPS and cellular live inside the housing; the install is the port, nothing else.

Confirms itself with beeps

Plug it into the OBD-II port and listen for the confirmation beeps: you will know it is live before you pull out of the yard. No installer, no appointment.

Flame-retardant build

A sealed housing built to take the heat for years down in the port.

Crash captured like a black box

Collision detection triggers an automatic upload of detailed event data.

Grows with an IOX port

Add cameras, Driver ID, HOS, or satellite later and the tracker you plugged in never has to come back out.

Auto-calibrating sensors

Both motion sensors set their own orientation, so a bumped or re-plugged device keeps reading true.

The specifics

GO9 at a glance

The proven classic GO device

A 32-bit processor with increased memory and RAM drives high-fidelity data capture.

Auto-calibrating sensors

Accelerometer and gyroscope calibrate themselves in any mounting orientation. No calibration visit, no angle to get right.

16-pin OBD II plug-in

Installs on the diagnostic port in minutes, with no wiring, no antennas, and no shop visit to schedule.

Deep vehicle data

Because it reads the engine bus, a fault code reaches MyGeotab the moment it trips, so maintenance sees the problem before the driver has to mention it.

IOX expansion port

Adds Driver ID, HOS, temperature monitoring, GO Focus cameras, and satellite connectivity later, without replacing the device.

Built to live under a dash

Flame-retardant black ABS housing, engineered for years of service in the diagnostic port.

Built for mixed fleets

One device for every vintage in the yard

Cars, pickups, box trucks, semis, and buses: the GO9 was built to speak to all of them.

Any body style

Light duty to heavy duty, one device family and one platform, so your reports read the same across the fleet.

Older vehicles welcome

A pre-2010s truck reports the same location, faults, and driver data as the newest van in the yard.

Harness matched by us

Many 16-pin vehicles plug straight in. Where a harness is needed, we source the correct Geotab-approved one for the make, model, and year.

Live in MyGeotab

Every vehicle, on the map, right now

Position, speed, and status refresh as the fleet moves.

GO9 or Next-Gen GO10

How we help you choose

Geotab GO9 vehicle tracking device

Choose the GO9 when

Your fleet runs older vehicles. The GO9 keeps the legacy engine protocols the GO10 drops, the proven standard for pre-2010s and mixed-age fleets.

Geotab Next-Gen GO10 vehicle tracking device

Choose the Next-Gen GO10 when

You run newer vehicles or cross-border routes, or want remote commands and Bluetooth small-tool relay. See the Next-Gen GO10 page.

Either way, both report into the same MyGeotab. Read the full GO9 vs GO10 comparison, or send us your vehicle list and we will split it honestly: GO9 where the old protocols matter, GO10 where they do not.

Trip By Trip

Every trip writes its own record

Start, stop, distance, and idle time, logged automatically for every vehicle on a GO9.

Questions

The GO9, in plain terms

Will the GO9 work on my vehicles?

Yes, on a wide range of light and heavy-duty vehicles, and it is our recommendation for older units that still speak legacy engine protocols. Most 16-pin vehicles plug straight in, and where a harness is needed we match the correct Geotab-approved one for you.

How fast is the install?

Minutes. Plug it into the diagnostic port, listen for the confirmation beeps, and the vehicle appears in your database. Call us after plugging in and we confirm communication on the spot.

What happens if the vehicle is in a crash?

The GO9 detects the collision and automatically uploads detailed data for forensic reconstruction: what the vehicle was doing before, during, and after. Pair it with a GO Focus camera and you get the video to match.

Can I add cameras or driver ID later?

Yes. The IOX expansion port adds GO Focus cameras, Driver ID, HOS, temperature monitoring, and satellite connectivity without replacing the tracker you already installed.
