Outage Response, Dispatched

From One Live Map

When the lights go out, your fleet is the response. Geotab gives dispatch a live picture of every crew.

  • Closest crew to the outage, found in one click
  • Battery trackers on staged generators, no wiring needed
  • Collision risk modeled on nearly 6 million vehicles

Storm-Ready

The Territory, Live, on One Screen

Normal days run tighter and storm days run calmer when dispatch can see everything.

  • Closest-crew dispatch. Send the nearest qualified crew and shave minutes off restoration.
  • After-hours and call-out visibility. See who is already moving and who has not answered yet, with a timestamp on every call-out.
  • Fleet health for critical units. Breakdown risk ranked per truck, fixed before the call comes.
  • Crew safety accountability. Seatbelt, speeding, and harsh braking scored per driver, so the one headed for a claim is coached first.

What Changes

Storm-Ready Trucks and Crews You Can Account For

Critical trucks ready

Fault codes ranked by breakdown risk tell the shop which digger to fix first, days before the storm.

Fewer at-risk drivers

Geotab's Collision Risk model ranks every driver by how likely they are to crash next; fleets actively using Geotab's safety tools see 28.7% fewer collisions (Geotab, 2026).

Territory Zones, Storm Reports, and Call-Out Rules

The live map is the start. These are the zones, rules, and reports we configure so a storm night runs on data, not radio traffic.

  1. 01Territory zones

Substations, yards, and work areas geofenced; time in area recorded per zone visit, crew by crew.

  2. 02Storm-mode reports

The restoration timeline compiles feeder by feeder, ready for the regulator.

  3. 03Digital inspections

Inspections done on the driver's phone before the truck leaves the yard; defects route to the shop as they are logged.

  4. 04After-hours and call-out rules

Mobilization pings the on-call chain the moment a truck rolls.

  5. 05Groups by district

Each district lead sees their crews; the storm room sees the whole map.

  6. 06Configured and supported here

Zones, rules, and reports built before the storm, supported after by our U.S.-based team.

Questions

Utilities Fleet FAQ

Can Geotab support storm and outage response?

Live location and routing help you stage crews and respond faster during storms and outages.

Does it track specialized equipment?

Yes. Bucket trucks, digger derricks, and trailers all land on the same map, each with the tracker built for it.

Can it help with regulatory reporting?

Scheduled reports and exportable data make it easier to compile the records regulators and management ask for.

Do the cameras record my crews all day?

No. GO Focus cameras are event-based, not continuous surveillance. In-cab privacy controls include a physical privacy option, and a Road Only configuration runs the driver-assistance alerts with no in-cabin camera at all. We help you set a policy your union and your crews can live with.

Can dispatch share a crew's position with the EOC during an event?

Yes. Live map views can be shared, so the emergency operations center sees what dispatch sees without needing logins for everyone in the room.

What goes on equipment that sits in the yard most of the year?

GO Anywhere battery trackers. Self-installed, sealed against weather, up to ten years of battery life. They report on a schedule and wake up more often when the asset moves.
