What to expect from your free Geotab demo

By the GPSFMS Team · July 2026

The free demo is the fastest way to find out what Geotab does for your fleet, because it happens on your own vehicle, not in a slideshow. Here is exactly how it works.

The demo unit reports into your own MyGeotab database, built for you before it ships.

Step 1: You submit the form, we call you

After you request a demo, a fleet specialist reaches out by phone and email to confirm details: which vehicle you want to test on, what you most want to see, and where to ship the device. This is also where we answer the practical questions: pricing structure, contract terms, and what happens after the trial.

Step 2: The device ships quickly

Once details are confirmed, your demo device is configured for your fleet and shipped quickly after approval. While it is in transit, we build your personalized MyGeotab database: your company name, your time zone, and starter rules that match what you told us you care about.

Step 3: You plug it in and it self-installs

Pick a vehicle, find the OBD II port under the dash, and push the device in until it is fully seated. Six quick beeps confirm the connection. Setup finishes on its own in 10 to 15 minutes. If anything looks off, our install support guide covers the LED states, or just call us and we will verify communication on the spot.

Step 4: You watch a real week of data arrive

This is where it gets interesting. Trips, stops, idling, speeding, harsh events: the vehicle writes its own story. Your specialist walks you through the dashboard, sets up an alert or two, and shows you the reports that fleets actually use. Those same speeding and harsh-event signals feed the MyGeotab Safety Center and its Collision Risk predictive model (Geotab, Safety 201, 2026), so one demo week previews the driver coaching and risk scoring you would run fleet-wide.

How to get the most from your trial

  • Put it on your busiest vehicle. More activity means more to learn.
  • Do not announce the exact day it goes in. Baseline data is the honest kind.
  • Bring one real problem. A billing dispute, a fuel bill, a customer complaint. Ask us to solve it with the data.
  • Invite the skeptic. The dispatcher or ops manager who doubts it will ask the best questions.

Ready when you are: request your free demo device and let your own vehicle’s data make the case.
